About Carmen

Carmen began her piano study at the age of two with her father Dan Morin and has since been an active member of her Canadian musical community throughout her life.

Her orchestral debut with the Calgary Civic Symphony at the age of 10 sparked several guest solo performances with orchestras throughout Canada, including a performance tour for the Canadian Embassy, showcasing Canadian talent.

In her teacher training she studied Early Piano Pedagogy with Merlin B. Thompson. She holds her ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music, obtained her Diploma in Music Performance with Dmitry Nesterov (Moscow Conservatory)  at Mount Royal University, and studied under the tutelage of Marilyn Engle (Juilliard) and Charles Foreman (Juilliard) in the Music Performance program at the University of Calgary.

Following her faculty position at Mount Royal University’s Conservatory (2008–13) she founded one of Calgary's largest private music schools, Morin Music Studio in 2013.

The school has expanded to a faculty of more than 40 and over 1000 classical music students of all levels and ages.

As an arts entrepreneur she had the honor of receiving the Horizon Alumni Achievement Award from Mount Royal University (2016) to celebrate the success of Morin Music Studio, and was chosen as Avenue Magazine's Top 40 under 40 (2021).

Carmen is the founder of the Love of Music Calgary program, a community organization that extends the reach of music education to students who may not otherwise have the means to study.

Her online training and education programs including Momentum Piano Academy provide ongoing music education to students internationally in over 25 countries around the world through innovative learning systems.

She was awarded first prize in the Coimbra World Piano Duo Competition (2018), “Special Prize—Francis Poulenc” with pianist Lana Henchell which led to performance with the Orquestra Clàssica do Centro in the São Francisco Concert Hall.

Carmen was the first piano teacher in Western Canada to be inducted into the prestigious Steinway and Sons Teacher Hall of Fame (2019) in New York City, a designation recognizing North America’s most committed and passionate piano educators and performers. She currently serves on the board of directors of Honens International Piano Competition.

Carmen is an enthusiastic adjudicator for music festivals across Alberta, and has served as juror for the Canimex Canadian Music Competition, Canada's largest national music competition for young musicians.
